What is a residual current transformer (DACT)?
A residual current transformer does not measure the load current of individual conductors, but the differential current (also known as fault or leakage current) that occurs when not all of the current flows back via the intended conductors. The DACT already detects very small fault currents from 0.02 A.
When a residual current transformer is the right choice
Residual current transformers are suitable for monitoring insulation faults and leakage currents, for example as a supplement to classic load current measurement. For pure current measurement of an individual conductor, standard current transformers such as ASK or KBR/KBU are the right choice. For permanent, automated monitoring with evaluation, see also residual current monitoring (RCM).

Mounting and safety
The secondary circuit of a current transformer must never be operated open during operation – before disconnecting measuring devices in the secondary circuit, it must be short-circuited.
