What is a high-frequency split-core current transformer (XKBR/XKBU)?
The XKBR/XKBU combines the split, hinged measuring core of the split-core current transformer (KBR/KBU) with a design for higher-frequency currents – suitable for precise harmonic measurements on already laid lines.
When a high-frequency split-core current transformer is the right choice
The XKBR/XKBU is suitable when both subsequent installation around an existing line (without having to cut it) and accurate detection of harmonic components are required. Without harmonic requirements, the standard KBR/KBU is usually sufficient; for plug-on mounting with harmonic measurement, see XCTB.
Technical features
- Split, hinged measuring core
- Primary current 100 A to 2,500 A
- Secondary current 1 A or 5 A
- Accuracy classes 0.5, 1 as well as extended FS classes (0.5FS5, 0.5FS10, 1FS5, 1FS10)
- Power 0.2 VA to 5 VA
Mounting and safety
The secondary circuit of a current transformer must never be operated open during operation – before disconnecting measuring devices in the secondary circuit, it must be short-circuited. When using the split measuring core, additionally ensure that it fully engages when closing.
