What is a high-frequency current transformer (XCTB)?
The XCTB is a plug-on design that is specially designed for the precise detection of currents with a high frequency component – up to an operating frequency of around 20 kHz. This makes it suitable for high-precision harmonic measurements where a standard current transformer reaches its limits.
When a high-frequency current transformer is the right choice
The XCTB is used when, in addition to the 50 Hz fundamental current, higher-frequency components (harmonics) are to be measured precisely – for example in power quality analyses, harmonic measurement, grid quality recording or in systems with power electronic loads and measuring technology systems with extended frequency analyses. For pure fundamental measurement without this requirement, the standard plug-on current transformer (CTB) is generally sufficient.

Mounting and safety
The secondary circuit of a current transformer must never be operated open during operation – before disconnecting measuring devices in the secondary circuit, it must be short-circuited.
