The Sonel MPI-525 is a powerful and precise measuring device for checking parameters of electrical installations. It combines numerous functions in a compact and robust housing and is aimed at both professional installers and experienced test technicians.
A special feature of the MPI-525 is the option for insulation resistance measurement with a test voltage of up to 2500 V – a feature that is rarely found in this device class. In combination with the optional adapter AutoISO-2500, automated insulation measurements on 3-, 4- and 5-core cables are also possible.
The device enables high-resolution measurements of the short-circuit loop impedance (down to 0.01 ohm) both in L-PE circuits and in networks with RCDs. Likewise, the actual trip time and trip current of a residual current circuit breaker can be recorded with just one trip – a time-saving and precise method for standard-compliant tests.
Functional features
The MPI-525 combines the functions of several individual devices without compromising on accuracy. Among other things, it supports the following measurement tasks:
-
Loop impedance measurement (also in circuits with RCDs)
-
RCD tests with determination of trip time and trip current
-
Insulation resistance measurement (also automated with AutoISO adapter)
-
Earth measurement using the 3-wire method
-
Testing the continuity of protective and equipotential bonding conductors
-
Phase sequence determination
Extended functions
In addition to the standard measurements, the device offers further practical functions:
-
PE conductor check via contact electrode
-
Mains voltage measurement up to 500 V
-
Frequency measurement
-
Internal memory for up to 990 measurement results
-
Wireless data transmission to a PC
Insulation measurement with 2500 V test voltage
A unique selling point of the MPI-525 is insulation measurement with a test voltage of up to 2.5 kV. This offers a decisive advantage, especially in industrial applications with higher insulation requirements. Using the AutoISO-2500 adapter, measurements can be carried out automatically and reliably on multi-core cables.
The device features an integrated stopwatch for time-controlled measurement. Three time intervals (1 to 600 seconds) can be set. The absorption factor is calculated automatically based on the set times. After the measurement is completed, the test object is automatically discharged to ensure maximum safety.
Efficient safety tests
For assessing electrical safety in private and commercial installations, the device offers automated procedures:
-
RCD tests in automatic mode
-
Convenient insulation testing with the AutoISO-2500 adapter
Robust housing for harsh operating conditions
Thanks to its stable housing protected to IP54, the MPI-525 is ideal for use on construction sites or in harsh industrial environments. It withstands dust, splashing water and mechanical stress. The design of the cover additionally protects the display from damage without restricting handling or mobility.
Data transmission and software support
Measurement results can be conveniently transferred to a computer via USB cable or wirelessly. The Sonel Reports PLUS software is used for protocol creation. In addition, the free Sonel Reader software is available for managing and printing data formats.
Conclusion
The Sonel MPI-525 is a versatile, precise and robust measuring device for demanding test tasks in the field of electrical installation. With its unique 2500 V insulation measurement, automated functions and practical additional features, it offers an excellent price-performance ratio – both for everyday use and for special applications.
