Application
The function is comparable to an RCD. It monitors the network for a fault current but, unlike the RCD, does not disconnect the network when a fault is detected, but only indicates it. The (differential) current measurement is performed via an external current transformer. All conductors of the outgoing circuit to be protected (without PE) are passed through the transformer. In a fault-free network, the sum of all currents is zero, so that no voltage is induced in the transformer. If a fault current flows to ground due to an insulation fault, the current difference in the transformer causes a current that is detected and evaluated by the IP 5883. In the event of a wire break in and to the transformer, the device switches to the alarm state and both red LEDs flash.
